September 24, 2026: India is on track to add 7.5-8 GW of wind energy capacity in the current fiscal year as the country accelerates renewable energy deployment to meet its 2030 targets, a senior government official said on Tuesday.

Addressing the EU-India Wind Energy Business Summit 2026 at WindEnergy Hamburg, Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said India had added more than 6 GW of wind capacity in 2025-26.

India has set a target of taking its installed wind power capacity beyond 100 GW by 2030. As of August 31, 2026, the country had 58.52 GW of installed wind capacity. 2.42 GW added in five months

During the first five months of the current fiscal — April to August — India added 2.42 GW of wind capacity.

NTPC arm declares commercial operation of 56.7 MW wind capacity in Gujarat

September 24, 2026: NTPC Limited on Tuesday announced the commercial operation of an aggregate 56.7 MW wind power capacity of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a step-down subsidiary of NTPC through its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL). 

The first project comprises the fourth part capacity of 6.3 MW of the Vanki Wind Energy Project located at Nakhatrana in Kutch, Gujarat. The capacity forms part of the 1,050 MW wind component of the 500 MW REMCL RTC Project and achieved commercial operation with effect from 00:00 hours on September 22, 2026.
