September 24, 2026: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on major buyers of Russia crude, including India, China and Turkey, to stop trading with Moscow, arguing that cutting off this revenue could put pressure on Russia to end its war in Ukraine.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Zelenskyy said Russia's economy was heavily dependent on energy sales to these countries.

'Russia is basing its economy on India, sometimes Turkey and China,' Zelenskyy said. 'And it is obvious if these guys stop their energy trade with Russia, then it [Russia] will have to stop fighting the war.'

Russia has redirected much of its oil trade towards Asian markets after Western sanctions and restrictions on Russian energy exports. India and China have become major buyers of Russian crude, while Turkey also remains an important energy and trade partner.
