The meeting was co-chaired by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri and OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais. India-OPEC relationship
Puri said India and OPEC share a complementary and mutually beneficial relationship and acknowledged Al Ghais’s contribution towards strengthening engagement between the two sides.
He said India valued its longstanding relationship with OPEC and its member countries, which had contributed to greater understanding and cooperation on key energy issues. Referring to India’s expanding energy requirements, Puri said the country would remain an important driver of global energy demand in the coming decades as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
He also stressed the importance of sustained dialogue between energy producers and consumers to support investment, strengthen energy resilience and ensure reliable energy supplies for global growth and development. Puri appreciated OPEC’s efforts to promote stability and transparency in global energy markets amid geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility. He called for closer cooperation between India and OPEC towards maintaining a balanced, stable and predictable global energy market.
