Introduction

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from established manufacturers, technology providers, technology licensors, and specialized oilfield service providers possessing proven expertise in downhole Drill Swivel, workstring rotation, friction reduction and torque isolation technologies for liner deployment and completion applications.

Deployment of long liners in highly deviated and horizontal open-hole sections can result in significant axial drag, torque, reduced hook load and difficulty in reaching the planned setting depth. These challenges may become more significant in extended open-hole sections and where the completion assembly incorporates components that are sensitive to rotational forces.

ONGC is exploring the applicability of specialized downhole Drill Swivel technology capable of permitting rotation of the upper workstring while substantially isolating the lower liner/completion assembly from rotational torque. Such technology is intended to reduce friction and drag during deployment of the Limited Entry Liner (LEL) completion system and facilitate reliable placement of the liner at the required depth.

The proposed Drill Swivel may comprise a workstring-deployed mechanical, hydraulic or combined mechanism capable of allowing relative rotation between the upper workstring and the lower completion assembly, with provision for positive locking where transmission of torque to the lower assembly is required.

ONGC is presently considering evaluation of such technology for deployment with the Limited Entry Liner (LEL) completion system in selected Mumbai High wells having long, highly deviated/horizontal open-hole sections.

The EOI is intended to assess available Drill Swivel technologies, technology maturity, manufacturers/service providers, field experience, operating envelope, equipment availability and suitability for potential deployment in Mumbai High wells.
