October 16, 2026: Sergio Gor, US Ambassador to India, on Thursday spoke out on the 100% tariffs imposed against India due to Russian oil purchases. While speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Gor said that US President Donald Trump is likely to make a decision within the next 10 days on sanctions provisions that could affect countries buying Russian oil and gas, including India.

September 18 this year, Trump signed the Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 (SRIA) into law. The law authorises up to 100% tariffs on imports from top energy importers of Russian crude/gas or those countries who facilitate sanctions-evasion. 

Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Sergio Gor said, "He has to make a determination in the next I believe 10 or so days." He explained that Trump hasn't imposed sanctions on any country under the law so far and was required to take a decision within 30 days of the law being passed.
